Since the discovery of diamonds in Botswana in 1967, the industry has seen over 40 years of constant growth in this model of democracy in Africa.
Botswana boasts one of the highest per-capita incomes on the continent and offers its citizens free education from first grade to a doctorate degree. Other services are free as well, such as healthcare.
Every SWANA diamond is produced in Botswana, where Dalumi owns a modern state-of-the-art polishing factory. Among the 270 skilled employees, over 90% of the workers are local residents. All our departments are equipped with the highest technology available.
SWANA sponsors the Tlokweng SOS Children’s Village in Gaborone, dedicated to improving the quality of life for orphaned children. In addition, SWANA sponsors local athletes who compete in extreme-sport events, with the proceeds donated to charitable causes in Botswana.
The company is also one of the Paranial sponsors of the Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF), an organization supporting educational programs in diamond-producing countries. As a member of the DEF Empowerment Circle, Swana displays its diamonds at DEF events such as the “Diamonds for Good” mission, where visitors and business partners learn about the latest developments in jewelry making and ethical diamond production.
Swana was honoured to be a winning sponsor for the Botswana Diamond Trading Company’s third “Shining Light” Awards collection, showing diamond-studded creations by jewelers of Botswana and Namibia. Swana sponsored a magnificent neck piece designed by Olorato Temogo: 1,516 black and white brilliant-cut diamonds set in 18-carat white gold, along with eight super-brilliant “Swana Star” diamonds.
